Another plane crash in Nepal. A Surya Airlines flight met with an accident shortly after take-off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal on Wednesday. The plane, which had taken off with a total of 19 people including crew and passengers, caught fire. The plane was covered in black smoke. Airport staff and security guards rushed in. Rescue work started immediately. Airport services have been suspended for the time being.

The weather was bad when the flight took off on Wednesday morning. The passenger plane caught fire shortly after take-off. TIA spokesperson Premnath Tagore said that the accident took place around 11 am. Rescue work started immediately. It was possible to rescue several people in the plane. The pilot was also rescued. They were taken to a local hospital. Firefighters and police are continuing rescue operations.

It is known that pilot Manish Shakya was rescued in critical condition. He was taken to a hospital in Shinamangal. According to various sources, at least 13 passengers have died. Their bodies have been recovered.

The plane skidded off the runway, South Asia Times reported. That is the problem. At last count, 18 of the 19 died.

PLANE CRASH IN NEPAL: Eyewitnesses present at the spot while talking to Kathmandu Post said, “The plane was taking off from the southern end of the runway. Suddenly it jolted and caught fire. After this, it fell into a pit between the Buddha Air Hangar and the radar station on the eastern side of the runway.”

According to the website of Saurya Airlines, the company operates flights to 5 places in Nepal. They have 3 Bombardier CRJ-200 jets. The plane that crashed was made in 2003.

Nepal has had 12 plane crashes in 14 years

The air industry in Nepal has developed a lot in the last few years. It is also providing services in many difficult and mountainous areas. However, accidents happen frequently here due to poor security and lack of training.

An average of one plane crash occurs every year in Nepal. Since 2010, 12 plane crashes have occurred. A major plane crash took place here on 14 January 2023. A Yeti Airlines plane crashed in Pokhara, 205 km from Kathmandu. It was an ATR-72 plane, carrying 68 passengers and four crew members.

The plane collided with a hill just 10 seconds before landing at Pokhara International Airport. This caused the plane to catch fire and fall into a ditch. All 72 people died in the accident. Earlier on 29 May 2022, an aeroplane crashed in Mustang district. 22 people died in this accident.

In 2018, a US-Bangla Airlines plane crashed near Tribhuvan Airport in Kathmandu. 51 people died in this, while 20 were seriously injured. Seeing the frequent plane accidents in Nepal, the European Union has banned Nepalese carriers in its airspace.

Since 2010, there has been one major plane crash in Nepal. There have been at least 12 such accidents in the last 14 years, in which many lives have been lost. Wednesday’s plane crash added to it. In January this year, a Yeti Airlines plane crashed after taking off. The plane caught fire and crashed in Pokhara. Altogether 72 people were on that plane. They all died.

The record of plane crashes in Nepal is increasing and the lives of many people are being killed. A lot of families are losing their loved ones. so the government should discuss with its Aviation department the issue and the problem and hopefully, they will find a way and even some people are now taking a big question mark on the training of the pilots so the Government also should look into the matter.
